Giving beyond the holidays.

Friends,
Well, the winter holiday season is past and we're moving into a brand new year hoping for the best one ever. I saw this article in the Warren paper on Friday and wanted to be sure you had a chance to read it. This is the very core principal that drives Hooktown Holiday's. Although we started out during the holiday season we are, in fact, active all year round. If you've followed this blog or our Facebook page, you know this.

There's an important point that's made in this short article, "The less fortunate will need just as much help with necessities such as food, shelter, clothing and health care next month as they did on Dec. 25." This speaks directly to our specific and singular mission, "To provide nutritious food, warm clothing, and/or other necessities of life to individuals and families in need in our community." That's it.

When you support Hooktown Holiday's you know exactly were your funds are going. We are  volunteer board members and none receive salaries. We are compensated by the joy and honor of being able to help.

As we head into 2017, Hooktown Holiday's continues it's mission. I invite you to continue your support if you currently do so. If you are not currently a supporter and you feel a connection to the direction we take, please consider Hooktown Holiday's in your charitable giving for 2017.

May you have a Happy and Prosperous New Year!

Terry

Here's the additonial news that I promised to share after the holiday. Things were really jumping for Hooktown Holiday's this year!

Eisenhower Middle/High School donation:

We presented a check for $1,500.00 to Eisenhower Middle/High School Principal, Kelly Martin. The money will be used to support the new, Hooktown Holiday’s founded, food pantry at the school.

Picture
Youngsville High School donation:
We also presented a check for $1,200.00 to the Youngsville High School Honor Society to support the new food pantry, founded by Hooktown Holiday’s, at the school. The students, along with their advisor, Olivia Zawacki, will be managing the new food pantry as a group project. I was deeply impressed by the enthusiastic repsonse of the Honor Society to take on this project!

Friends, I'm sure you see the trend here. Hooktown Holiday's is committed to closing the nutritional gaps for the  children in our community. It's made clear in our mission statement that it's what we do. Of course, none of this would be possible without your generosity and your committment to the same goal.

Words alone cannot express how grateful we are for your friendship and support. This has been an amazing year of outreach and sharing for Hooktown Holiday's.

May 2017 be the best year ever for all of you and those you help to support.

Friends,
Our local Salvation Army has had some challenges in their fund raising efforts in 2016.  Hooktown Holiday’s has stepped in to try to help out. Our Vice President, Jeff Mckown, recently presented our check for $3,000 to Captain Keith Jache of the Warren Salvation Army to support their 2016 campaign.

Jeff and I also helped out with the “Red Kettle” fund raiser by taking our turns at the kettles and ringing those bells like crazy!

It’s you, our amazing supporters that help us, help others. I’ll remind everyone, again, that Hooktown Holiday’s is focused on one thing. Our mission statement lays it out in straight forward, simple terms. Also, every penny you donate is returned to the community to support our mission.

And, there’s even more good news! But, I’ll share that a little at a time. Please enjoy your holiday weekend. I hope it’s a happy time for everyone.

A Million Thanks!
Terry

From Rachel, the unknown founder of Hooktown Holiday's

Hi everybody!  I'm Rachel, the owner of the people called Terry and Betty Jo. I would have named them differently if I had been here first. I thought you should know that I was also one of the founders of Hooktown Holiday's. I was there when my people started putting away $2 a week in order to try to help some one during the winter holidays.  I put my 2 bucks in every week!

Well, I have a confession to make. I'm a "moocher".  I'm as proud of that as any people owner would be! It takes a lot of work! So my people had to put the $2 in for me. Besides, I'm not sure how to open a wallet without eating part of it.

My message is really to my fellow "people owners". You can help Hooktown Holiday's provide all of that good stuff that people need just to live and get by. Your people could give a donation in your name and you would probably get an extra treat for suggesting it!  It's all "tax de duck able". I'm not sure what that means, but the "duck" part sounds good!

Give it a try. "People" are pretty wonderful to have around. If we can help some who are struggling, well, that is what we should do. We need them, that is for sure!

Go here if you can help.

By the way, Hooktown Holiday's is doing stuff all year round. "It's a proactive charitable community organization that seeks to help where it's needed." My people Terry had me add that. I'm guessing you know what that means.

Millions of Tail Wagging Thanks!
Rachel

Friends,
Because of your wonderful generosity, we have been able to make our annual distribution to those organizations that we support based on our mission statement.  During the winter holiday season, the need is often greater than at anytime during the year.  The exciting thing is, there is more to tell about how much you are all helping our wonderful community.  I have lots of news to share. Stay tuned!
In the meantime, be sure to check out our Facebook page where we share some wonderful positive and motivating thoughts  that you, in turn, can share with others.
Many Thanks and Happy Holidays!

Friends,
I'm sharing this from our facebook page courtesy of our board member, Jeff McKown. Thanks Jeff!

"These are two special people who were standing out in the cold tonight ringing the bell for the Salvation Army. Please put something in these kettles when you see them. The Salvation Army is just one of the organizations that we support financially every year. We thank this mother and her daughter for braving the elements, just moments before I took the picture they were huddled together under a blanket!"

You can see all of the organizations you help support on our HHGiving page.

Our wish is for everyone to have a Happy Holiday!
Terry
