Friends,
Remember when I posted that our 2017 Hooktown Holidays Garage Sale will be bigger and better than ever? Well, that turned out to be an UNDERSTATEMENT!  We currently have over 7 storage facilities filled to the brim and more items are coming in almost every day.  Many of the donations this year are really top notch items like furniture, appliances, electronics, vintage collectibles and so much more. In addition, we'll be hosting vendors who will be offering up their own unique products for sale.

Because of the overwhelming number of donated items, we'll have two locations for the sale. The G. G. Green estate at 1235 Conewango Avenue and the Pearson home at 1201 Conewango Avenue. Both locations are just a short distance away from each other so it will be easy for you to have access to all of those wonderful treasures. Be sure to check out both locations!

The HH Garage Sale happens "rain or shine" as everything will be under tents for everyone's comfort and enjoyment. So, there is every reason to stop in to see if you can find that "treasure of a lifetime"!

Remember, proceeds assure Hooktown Holidays continues on in our singular mission to provide nutritious food, warm clothing, and/or others necessities of life to children, families and other individuals in need in our community.

To all of you who've donated items for the sale and those of you who continue to support HookTown Holidays by attending the sale and giving monetary donations...

WE THANK YOU AND WE APPRECIATE YOU!

Terry

Hello everyone,

Author Helen Keller said “alone we can do so little; together we can do so much”. This quotation is a synopsis of Hooktown Holidays, Inc.  Since 2013 you, our wonderful supporters of Hooktown Holidays, Inc. have come together with a singular mission: to provide nutritious food, warm clothing, and other necessities of life for the children of Warren County and families in need. Every cent that we receive is returned to our community to provide assistance to those who are struggling every day.

In 2016, thanks to your kindness and continued support we were able to, once again, provide funding to the following:

• Salvation Army    • The Sharing Place
• St. Joseph Soup Kitchen        • Area Agency on Aging    • Trinity Hot Meals Program
• Veterans Emergency Help Fund

In addition in 2016, we provided funding for the Warren Area High School Food Pantry. We founded food pantries and initial funding at Beaty, Eisenhower and Youngsville. Financial assistance was also provided to Sheffield High School to assist at risk students and their families during the holiday break from school.

We were also able to provide financial support to the “Produce Express” Program which provides food to 120 income eligible families every month.

In addition to our 3rd Annual $1,000 Academic Scholarship, your Board has approved an additional $1,000 Scholarship to a student attending a trade school.

Regarding upcoming 2017 activities, we are planning our first garden tour this summer. We will be in the 4th of July Parade and Christmas Parade.  Of course, our Annual Garage Sale and a Chinese Auction will be a highlight that everyone looks forward to.

As a proactive 501c3 charity we will continue to reach out even further in 2017 to those who are struggling for the basic life essentials we all deserve. We are making a difference and we are here to stay!

Personally, I wish every one of you only the best in 2017. Have a wonderful summer!

We welcome any questions, concerns or suggestions regarding our group. Please call 814-688-9979; write to us at Hooktown Holidays, Inc., P.O. Box 1751, Warren, PA 16365; or stop at the house, 1201 Conewango Avenue. After all, it’s YOUR charity.

Respectfully,
Terry

First, the big surprise...and honor (plus a little help).

Friends,
Things sure are  jumping for Hooktown Holiday's! I’ve got many things to share. But first (and I’m sure most of you know this), no one was more surprised than me to find I was nominated for the line-up to be “elected” Grand Marshal of the Christmas Parade. I’m honored but it’s not about me, that is for sure. More importantly, it’s another step forward in solidifying Hooktown Holiday’s presence in our Warren area community. It’s all about our mission and you, our supporters, who bring that mission to reality.

It’s not clear when the voting ends but I assume there is still the opportunity. What I found out is that it’s difficult to find how to vote on line so here are some links to help. Please share with your friends, no matter who they would like to vote for.

Just to be clear, this isn't a campaign note to elect me, (I’m sure we’ve all had enough of campaigning!) Hooktown Holiday’s is already planned to participate in the parade.  I just thought it would be great if anyone who wants to vote can do it easily.

Here’s the link to the article in case you haven’t seen it and don’t know who the choices are:

I have more to share is later posts.

I recently had the honor to present our Hooktown Holiday's story and mission to the Zonta Club of Warren. We received a very warm welcome and positive reaction to our organization's efforts to  provide assistance to those in need in the Warren Community. I'm happy and proud to say that the Zonta Club Membership Chair, Janis Bennett, is also a member of the Hooktown Holiday's Board of Directors. Many thanks to the Zonta club for inviting me to share the exciting and dynamic organization that Hooktown Holiday's has become. And it's all because of you, our wonderful and dedicated supporters.

We are so grateful for YOU.

We were recently asked if we would accept a donation to Hooktown Holiday's to honor the long-time anniversary of close friends of the person making the request. Well, we hadn't thought of it, but of course we would be happy to make that happen. We subsequently received a generous check from that person and the names and address of the friends to whom we could send the confirmation and thanks.  What a wonderful way to celebrate or honor friends and loved ones. By helping others! Now, I want to be sure that everyone has that opportunity.

If you would like to to donate to Hooktown Holiday's to celebrate a special occasion, to honor loved ones or to thank a friend or neighbor, please let us know. We will acknowledge receipt of your request with a tax receipt for you and send a note on our letterhead to the person or people being honored.

You can make your request by land mail. Send the name(s) and address of the people you would like to acknowledge. Please tell us about the event or reason for the donation if you want that included in our letter. Also include the check for the donation.

You can mail your request to:

Hooktown Holiday's
P.O. Box 1751
Warren, PA 16365

You can also make your donation and request on line with PayPal. Use the Paypal button on our website or the “Donate now” button on our Facebook page. Both will lead you to our PayPal donation page. (The Facebook button will take you to our website first.)

If using PayPal be sure to provide us with the additional information to include in our letter of acknowledgement. To do that, before you complete your donation, look for the “Add special instructions to the seller” selector (see below). You can place your notes there.

Hooktown Holidays Initiates Food Pantry at Beaty-Warren Middle School

8/11/2016

When Hooktown Holiday’s was founded in 2013, part of our mission statement was “to provide nutritious food to individuals and families in need in our community.” Our group’s actions since then have proven out that commitment.

Last year, a group of teachers at the Warren Area High School started a food pantry there in order to help those students who were also “food insecure”. When a need for assistance for this group became public Hooktown Holidays, through our Board of Directors, came forward with the necessary funds. We presented a check for $1000 to support this, now, ongoing program at Warren Area High School. Now Warren Area High School has it’s own food pantry program. That’s just what happened when Hooktown Holiday’s came forward to support the children in the 6th through 8th grades at Beaty-Warren Middle School. We chose to take action by meeting with Principal Ann Ryan in order to begin a food pantry for the Beaty-Warren Middle School Children’s need for nutrition.

What we didn’t know until early this year is that there is no support for grades 6 through 8. Children at the end of grade 5 “age out” of the Backpack Program leaving them without nutritional support they require.

The new food pantry program will start at the beginning of this school year. Everything is in place and Hooktown Holiday’s has started if off with a donation of $750. The great thing is that we already have some strong support from area businesses and individuals. Shurfine Market has donated 10 cases of shelf-stable food and Ed Shults of Warren has donated $1000 to the program.

Hooktown Holiday’s is honored to initiate this program at the Beaty-Warren Middle School. We hope it be-comes the “blueprint” for other schools to follow in order to fill the need in their own communities. The need is so real. Hooktown Holiday’s is here to help and we are here to stay.

Hooktown Holiday’s started out small but in just three years has given over $32,000 back to the Warren County Community. We have become a solid organization in a short time and we are blessed to have the support of so many wonderful people … and not just from folks who lived in the Hooktown area at one time. We are a proactive organization reaching out to those in our community in need according to our Mission Statement: “To provide nutritious food, warm clothing and/or other necessities of life to individuals and families in need in our community” and take action when we can.

You can find more about Hooktown Holiday’s by visiting our website at hooktownholidays.org. Hooktown Holiday’s is a qualified 501 (c)(3) tax-exempt organization and donations are tax-deductible as allowed by U.S. law. We are board funded and EVERY PENNEY YOU DONATE is returned to our community.  So please, tell a friend and get involved.

You can check us out on Facebook using the link at the bottom of the page.

Our greatest thanks for all of  your support!
Terry

I'm pleased to announce that the Hooktown Holiday's $1000 Scholarship for the 2016/2017 school year has been awared to Katherin Harkins.  Katherine will be attending Gannon University with Forensic Science as her course of study. She was a high ranking student at Warren High School and was invloved in many school activities.
Katherine is also community minded and volunteers with several organizations. Katherine told us, "I will be the first person in my entire family to go to college. I want to better myself so I can help my entire family."  I hope you join me in congratulating Katherine and wishing her well in her studies and success into the future.
