dare /der/ - having the courage to do something
care /ker/- doing what is necessary for the health, welfare, maintenance, and protection of someone or something.
Nine years ago Hooktown Holidays was founded in February. The idea for the three founders was to donate $2 per week for the balance of the year and use the donated funds to assist someone in need in our community. Because the founding group dared to care and reach out to the invisible, the news spread and others joined the cause and $5,000 was donated by year end.
You, our wonderful supporter, dared to care and the result is over$160,000 donated back into our community to date!
Here’s what you accomplished this past year.
1. In 2021 you provided donations that allowed $10,350.00 to be distributed among these local organizations that align with our mission to provide nutritious food, warm clothing, and other necessities of life to children, families and other individuals in need in our community.
The Salvation Army (including a match of up to $500 for the Polar Plunge Event held recently).
The Veterans Emergency Fund
The Sharing Place
Produce Express
Saint Joseph’s Soup Kitchen
Area Agency on Aging (Experience, Inc.)
Tidioute Charter School Food Bank (Because you dared to care every school in Warren County now has a food bank)
A Safe Place
2. Provided donations to 2021 Shop with a Cop and donated 500 lbs of turkey’s to the Northwest Bank Food Drive.
3. Made Hooktown Holidays Annual Garage Sale and Chicken Bar-B-Q our biggest, best and most successful fund raiser ever.
4. Supported a completely separate, but important, mission to raise $10,000.00 to enable the Warren County Children’s Advocacy Center to acquire Tiger, a facility dog, whose job is to provide support and comfort in any situation where a child might be experiencing trauma.
Please come along with us again this year as we continue to grow and reach out to the neediest and loneliest individuals in our community.
Thank you.
Dare to Care.
